Prevention.


  • Do not bring bed frames, mattresses, box springs or upholstered furniture found on the street into your home.
  • Check all used furniture for bed bugs.
  • Inspect furniture and suit cases when you are traveling
  • If you think you have been around bed bugs wash and dry your clothes on hot settings.

Health effects.

  • A newly hatched bed bug is semi-transparent and light tan in color.
  • Adult bed bugs are flat, have rusty-red-colored oval bodies, and are about 1/4 inch long.
  • Blood stains, droppings and eggs can be found in several locations:
    • Mattress seams and tufts, sheets, pillowcases and upholstered furniture 
    • Crevices and cracks in furniture.
    • Baseboards of walls
  • Bite marks can appear within minutes or days.
  • Bites can be small bumps or large welts and often appear in rows.
